Current nationally authorised COVID-19 vaccine or booster. Product and eligibility follow Ministry of Health circulars in force at the time of administration.
Who should get it
- Adults eligible under current MoH booster guidance
- People 60+ and those with chronic illness
- Healthcare workers
- Immunocompromised people (may need additional doses — clinician-directed)
Who should wait
- Acute febrile illness — defer
- Recent COVID-19 infection — follow current interval guidance (often 3 months)
Contraindications
- Anaphylaxis to a previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or a known component (e.g. PEG, where relevant)
- Myocarditis after a previous dose — refer to clinician before further doses
Precautions
- History of myocarditis/pericarditis — pharmacist will refer
- Pregnancy and lactation: follow current MoH/WHO position; inactivated/mRNA products are generally permitted
Common side effects
- Sore arm
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Fever
- Chills for 24–48 hours
Rare risks
- Anaphylaxis
- Myocarditis/pericarditis (rare, mainly young males after some products)
